• Up• Peninsula annual Mother-Daughter Tea takes place at Palos Verdes Country Club
Members from the National Charity League, Palos Verdes Chapter, gathered at Palos Verdes Golf Club for their 15th annual Mother-Daughter Tea to acknowledge overall time contributed to serving the league’s mission and its commitment to community service, leadership development and cultural experiences.
Many of these young women, known as Ticktockers, were recognized for their exemplary service.
Palos Verdes Chapter members offer their time and compassion to 36 philanthropies in the South Bay and the greater Los Angeles area.
Ticktockers, ages 12-18, serve their community through hands-on work with organizations such as Peace4Kids, Friendship Foundation, Toberman Neighborhood Center, Boys and Girls Clubs of the Los Angeles Harbor, Palos Verdes Education Foundation, Palos Verdes Land Conservancy, Heal the Bay, Valmonte Early Learning Academy, and more.
rose.1Mother-daughter teams are responsible, dedicated, skilled volunteers actively engaged in local community work. In the 2017-2018 year, the mother and daughter members of NCL Palos Verdes Chapter, collectively provided more than 19,000 volunteer hours – 10,914 philanthropy hours and 8,110 league hours.
“Time is a precious gift—especially for students balancing full schedules of academics, sports and school activities,” said Aimee Gesseck, Palos Verdes Chapter president. “It was truly an honor for me to recognize 68 outstanding young women for giving the gift of their time for the greater good of our community.”
Sasha Theder, class of 2022, was presented with the Merci Award for volunteering the most hours in the 2017-2018 year. This exceptional young woman volunteered more than 300 hours, primarily at Friendship Foundation, Boys and Girls Clubs of the Los Angeles Harbor and Peace4Kids.
“I genuinely look forward to spending time with children in the organizations that need our help,” said Merci Award recipient Sasha Theder. “NCL has enabled me to find a passion that I didn’t know existed. I always feel like we have it backwards when we think that volunteering is a sacrifice on our part. I believe we are the lucky ones to have the opportunity to help others, and to be part of organizations that improve the lives of others.”

The theme for the 15th annual Mother-Daughter Tea was “Tea Time at Tiffany’s.”
More than 280 members attended this year’s time-honored tradition, which encourages positive bonding time for mothers and daughters and celebrates Ticktockers’ commitment to our community. Ticktockers grow into gracious young women by
learning hostess skills, how to be a polite and appreciative guest, and how to make proper introductions in a receiving line.
The Mother-Daughter Tea also included a fashion show featuring Cason Couture’s haute style collection for hip females as modeled by the class of 2019. Through the preparation and experience of participating in the fashion show, Ticktockers develop lifelong skills of confidence, poise, and image awareness.
Chapter currently has over 400 Members and provides hands-on volunteer service for 36 philanthropic organizations in the community. Members are women and their daughters, grades 7-12. Through this community service, NCL, Inc. develops socially responsible community leaders and strengthens the mother-daughter relationship.
The traditional Six Year Core Program also includes leadership development and cultural experiences. To date, there are more than 258 Chapters, 85 of which are in California. For more information about the NCL, Inc., Palos Verdes Chapter, please visit palosverdes.nationalcharityleague.org.
