• The Palos Verdes High girls’ varsity soccer team stands tough against Bay League foes.

Palos Verdes High School hosted the Centennial High Apaches Jan. 6 and proved that girls’ varsity soccer team is up to the challenge this season.
The Sea Kings, intent on improving their record, made short work of an Apache defense that proved no match for a dedicated offense.
Palos Verdes set the tempo with an early first score, from Alana Boze, and the galvanized defense continued to shut down Apache threats. Macy Rowland and Sydney Myrick each had two-goal games. The sure-footed varsity offense continued to capitalize on defensive steals resulting in season-high scoring. Emily Yoon scored a personal best three goals.
“We have been working really hard to build the chemistry, said Yoon, in a post-game interview. The team faced stiff competition Friday in the second game against Mira Costa.
Yoon said, “They have a lot of great players on their team and a lot of our friends are there. It’s a matter of being very competitive.”
The Sea Kings upset Mira Costa, 2-1 in overtime, in the first meeting of the two schools this year. Seven saves by goalie Kylie McElroy and a game-winning goal by Hinano Neqishi led to the upset of the formerly undefeated Mustangs.
McElroy had four saves in the Sea Kings’ 0-0 tie against Redondo Union High School Tuesday for PV’s second tie of the season.
PV will travel to Peninsula (5-5-2) after the three-day weekend for the first of two rivalry matches.
