Miraleste Student Organizes Charity Run
• Miraleste Intermediate School 8th Grader Connor Spencer puts together a charity run at Ernie Howlett Park.
Connor Spencer is an 8th grade student at Miraleste Middle School who has a passion for helping others.
“I have been doing charity work since I was 7 years old,” said Spencer. “I’m very passionate about it. I hope to continue it throughout my life.”
This year Spencer organized a two-mile “Charity Pie Run,” a run/walk event that was held on Saturday, March 31 at Ernie Howlett Park.
The event was open to all levels of runners and walkers. Everyone received a small pie for participating, and the top three winners were presented with a full pie and a ribbon.
The event raised money for Heifer International and Doctors Without Borders.
Heifer International is an organization working to end hunger and poverty throughout the world, a Heifer spokesperson at the Spencer’s event explained.
Doctors Without Borders is an organization designed to provide medical service to more than 70 war-torn regions and developing countries.
Chubby Cheeks Inc., or Chubby Cheeks Charity, is Spencer’s official, nonprofit organization through which he raises money for charity.
Today it’s hard to believe that such an incredible occasion and charity project was all made possible by such a young teenager. Spencer brought together a community, not to make money for himself but for others.
