Sea Kings Boys, Girls Take 4th In State
• The Palos Verdes High boys’ and girls’ cross country teams race in CIF State Finals.
Not long after Thanksgiving Day, the Palos Verdes High School cross country runners were at it again, taking their racing talents to State Finals at Woodward Park in Fresno.
Palos Verdes boys finished in 4th place as a team. Ian Irish was the first finisher from Palos Verdes, placing 24th and hitting the finish line in 16:19.20.
Irish led his teammate, Wade Nygren, who finished close behind him, placing 29th and finishing in 16:23.40.
William Teets followed and placed 36th. Teets clocked in at 16:29.10.
The next runner up from PV was Brandon Farnsworth, who placed 61st in 16:43.50.
In 88th place, Nate Lantz finished with a time of 16:58.50. A junior, Tate Nygren place 133rd with a time of 17:24.90. Running near (Tate) Nygren, Ryan Shikiya placed 198th. Shikiya finished in 18:54.90, tailing right behind an opponent.
Palos Verdes girls also finished in 4th place. The first PV girl to run through the finish line was sophomore Samantha Steman. Steman placed fourth and clocked in at 18:16.30.
Grace Catena, following right behind, placed 8th and finished in 18:31.80.
Freshman Bella Martinez was the next PV finisher. Martinez placed 61st and ran the course in 19:58.30.
Gabi Collatos, another freshman on the varsity team, followed right behind Martinez and placed 76th. Collatos clocked in at 20:13.70.
Only seconds behind Collatos was senior Samantha Cohen, who placed 80th and finished in 20:16.90. In 101st place, Natalie Watson had a finishing time of 20:35.30. Watson lead her teammate McKenna Paulson to finish in 107th place and finish with a time of 20:39.10.
