• Peninsula High hosts district wide conference.

Palos Verdes Peninsula Unified School District (PVPUSD) held its first Professional Development Day of the year on Sept. 30, where faculty members, from elementary school teachers to district staff, gathered at Peninsula High School to strengthen their skills in their respective fields.
The event began in at 8 a.m. in the main gym, where the faculty were greeted by music from Peninsula’s jazz band and dance team COED Choreo. The welcome continued with distPeninsula Principal Brent Kuykendall’s opening statement.
The PVPUSD faculty then rolled into Session One, the morning session of the day. Here, intermediate and high school teachers were separated into assigned classrooms based on what subject they instruct and level of compulsory education they teach. Elementary school educators, alternatively, chose from the different classes available, from ELD Instruction to California Science Test for Departmentalized Science Teachers, based on their general field of instruction.
After the conclusion of Session One and lunch hour, the faculty headed back to the classrooms to begin Session Two, where faculty choose from their respective choices based on the same prerequisites as Session One.
This event was also an opportunity for members of Peninsula High’s National Honor Society to meet the faculty, as the organization was providing service hours for helping with the development day.
From meeting their teachers from previous years to seeing fresh faces, these Peninsula students revisited memories from their educational journey thus far. Especially as all of the students who signed up to volunteer were seniors, seeing many of their previous teachers was reminiscent as graduation approaches.
“I missed (all of my teachers from my past) so much, and it gave me so much joy seeing all of my favorite elementary, middle and high school teachers together,” said senior and NHS board member Chrislyn Tseng.
